Remember to work only with well-established and reputable programs. Try to incorporate travel and lodging into the contract. If that's not possible, recognize that living costs in Japan can be very high, so salaries must also be high. No sense getting to Japan only to sit starving in your room at the local youth hostel. Also recognize that unless you're already familiar with the Japanese language and culture, you may well feel lost, alienated, or homesick outside your workplace. These are normal and natural and can be combated through advance planning and familiarization.
