Summer school was never this fun! Summer study abroad programs are valuable, self-enhancing activities that get you overseas and provide opportunities to study things you've always been interested in, plus many things you've never imagined. You'll come back from overseas a more complete person and a better citizen of the world. If you've come here to decide if you should go, here's my advice: Go! Summer study abroad is easy. Professionals guide you all the way and handle most of the paperwork and arrangements. Whether you are taking part in study abroad programs offered through your school, or hooking up with courses available through colleges overseas, there are established programs to put you in a challenging, rewarding setting next summer. You can see good example of well-established programs at Studiesabroad.com and Aifsabroad.com. Summer study overseas needn't be expensive. Depending on how strong the dollar is at your destination, room and board might be little more than what you'd spend on yourself at home. School tuition costs (program fees) often aren't more than similar summer programs near home. Besides, what is the price of knowledge? We're talking about unforgettable experiences in fascinating places. Studying overseas is better than studying about overseas. What can you learn overseas that you can't by studying at home? All the stuff that you experience outside the classroom. Trust me; I've worked in more than 20 countries, and I've picked up more in my travels about foreign cultures than any school can offer. There are things about the sports, religion, politics, and daily life that just don't fit into a typical class at your local school. You have to go before you can know. Summer isn't summer Down Under. Here's a hot tip for cool summer studying: when it's summer up here, it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere. And you'll get to see that life is like "down there" when school is in session and life is more "real" for the locals. Check out the Andes, for example, and you might end up hitting the slopes next July!
