Study abroad in Italy next summer! Italy is a beautiful country, and Italian is a beautiful language. How can you go wrong? Studying overseas doesn't get better than this. Imagine studying amid scenic ruins or overlooking warm beaches. Italy is a modern, stylish country built on the foundations of the ancient Roman Empire. Studying abroad among the Italians is an experience that will add zest to life, and the food is wonderful! Italy study abroad may seem restricted, since the Italian language is spoken in few other places outside Italy. But among the daughters of Latin, Italian is the most conservative. By studying Italian, you get a modern language and the insights into English, French, and Spanish that Latin offers. Besides, the language unlocks the history, literature, music, lore, and passion of Italian culture. A number of companies offer study abroad programs in Italy. I recommend those that concentrate on Italy only. Check out WorldLink Education (www.wle-italy.com). They offer language study in Rome, Venice, Florence, and Milan. As with most programs, they include seminars in Italian culture, art, and cooking, as well as local tours to points of interest. Many colleges have relationships with schools in Italy or established programs and centers there. These will be in the major cities, for the most part. You'll have to dig a bit to find programs in out-of-the-way places and quiet villages. I recommend the rural experience and suggest you consider studying in a part of Italy that will become more intimate in your memory, like the Italian Alps, the eastern coast, or Sicily. Rome and Venice are great, but you'll have to share them with thousands of residents and tourists. With a little research, you can find a school in a memorable place and have an unforgettably intimate study experience. That's what going abroad is all about - unforgettable experiences. Warning: Summer in southern Italy is summer indeed. Don't choose a program or school there unless you are OK with cool mornings and the kind of warmth that makes you feel cozy/lazy. You may laugh, but some people can't handle that kind of comfort. Fortunately, study abroad among the Italians can help you endure greater comfort that you have known before.
