Study abroad in Argentina is a step into an animated, active cultural experience. The people of Argentina have the fire of Spain, the excitement of Italy, and the independence of the New World. They expect to live life fully, and they welcome all who want to share the experience. The experience of studying overseas doesn't get better than this. And Study Abroad Argentina programs are many. In the classroom, you'll study standard Spanish, but in the streets and markets you'll add the musical, almost forceful Argentine dialect. It's a combination of skewed intonations, shortcuts, and idioms that only an Argentine (or someone who learns it by living it) can fully appreciate. Once back home, you'll flaunt your distinctive accent with pride. There are many study abroad programs that will put you in Buenos Aires. That's fine if you want the action of the big city. It's a thriving city with many attractions. You'll have to look further if you want to get out and see a slower, more scenic Argentina. Check out Rosario, Cordoba, Mendoza, and Mar del Plata. Each offers a different climate and character. There are study abroad programs in many Argentine cities. See the COINED site (Bariloche-spanish.com.ar) for a description of courses in Bariloche, where you can hit the slopes after class-when it's summer up north! Travel to Argentina might be expensive, but that can be offset by the low cost of tuition and lodging. Studying in the lesser-known cities can be particularly inexpensive. For lodging, I favor home stay with a local family. If you're lucky, you'll get one with little children. There's no better training in a new language than conversation with a kid. Oh, don't forget to learn to tango. Your study abroad experience in Argentina is wasted if you don't.
