Florence Study Abroad

How would it be to study in an ambience of beauty and fascination? Find out for yourself; study abroad in Florence, Italy. A center of artistic expression for centuries, Florence is also the site of many wonderful study opportunities. Florence study abroad programs abound.

Many colleges have programs with connections in Florence ("Firenze" in Italian). Check with your school to see if they have a center in Florence or a relationship with a university or academy there (that's the best way to ensure that you get credit for studying overseas). If not, run a Web search. You'll find many programs. Take your time. Get familiar with many of them. Compare. Look for value, reliability, and compatibility with your abilities and interests. Also look for that special, magical setting that only Florence can offer. Study abroad should be a positive experience in self-development. Don't settle for less.

Here are some of my favorite sites for study in Florence:

• The University of Florence: Cut out the middleman. Here's the main site for the Universita degli Studi di Firenze - www.unifi.it. Click on "Students from abroad" and be prepared to bump around a bit. The site isn't real Anglo-friendly. (Which is why it's a very good representation of what studying and living in Italy will be like, until you get used to things a la Italiana.)
• Studio Arts Centers International (SACI) - Florence: "seeking excellence in studio art and liberal arts instruction at the United States university level." www.saci-florence.org
• The University of Syracuse: You gotta hand it to them; Syracuse has well-established, highly reputable programs (Suabroad.syr.edu) and a relationship with the University of Florence that opens doors.
